Happening Now: Car Into Apartment Building, Three Trapped Inside

Claymont – Rescue crews from the Claymont Fire Company, along with the Brandywine Hundred Fire Company, Trooper 4 and the New Castle County Collapse Team are responding to the Top Of The Hill Apartments in Claymont for reports of vehicle into an apartment.

Arriving crews have confirmed that three patients are trapped inside the car.

Update 5:02 pm crews have made contact with the patients. Two adults, one child in the car.

Update 5:04 pm medics on scene have alerted Trooper 4 that they will not be utilized.  Crews continue to work to remove the patients from the building.

Update: 5:15 pm Crews are working to secure the building before they can get the patients out.

Update: 5:19 pm Building has been stabilized and crews are removing the patients from the car.

Update: 5:21 pm Command is reporting that all patients are out of the care and in the process of being evaluated outside the buiding.

Update: 5:30 pm The two adults have refused medical treatment. It’s unclear if the 1-year-old child will be transported.

Addition updates to the story: The vehicle crashed through a basement window causing the building to become unstable. All patients are out out of the building and crews are working to shore up the building. The building inspector has been alerted.
