Police: Pennsylvania Man Arrested After Firing Gun At Hotel

Georgetown – Georgetown Police have arrested a Pennsylvania man after investigating a shots fired complaint at the Classic Motel, according to Public Information Officer, Detective Joey Melvin.

Melvin said on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Georgetown Police were dispatched to the Classic Motel on S. DuPont Highway for a shots fired complaint. Officers learned from the victim that a black male had driven into the parking lot in a black Ford Expedition and approached the victim.

After approaching the victim, the suspect brandished a handgun and then discharged the gun in the direction of the victim, according to Melvin. The victim was not injured and the suspect fled from the scene.
Georgetown Police, with assistance from Delaware State Police, located the suspects’ vehicle at a residence in the Oak Orchard area and the suspect was taken into custody without incident, said Melvin.

David Tharp, 51, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was charged with Reckless Endangering First Degree, Assault First Degree, Aggravated Menacing, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. Tharp was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $45,000 secured bond.
