Bellefonte – The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal has determined that yesterday afternoon’s fire in Bellefonte, Delaware was accidental, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio.

Chionchio said the Brandywine Hundred Fire Company was dispatched to a building fire shortly after 1:00 pm in the 1200 block of Terra Hill Drive, Lighthouse Hill Apartments. Firefighters were confronted with heavy amounts of smoke pouring from the apartment building.

State fire investigators were called to the scene and conducted the investigation into the origin and cause of this fire. The fire began inside one of the bedrooms of an apartment, according to Chionchio. An electrical malfunction occurred igniting the bed.

Heavy fire damage was estimated at $70,000. Fourteen residents have been relocated from the building. The fire alarm system inside the building alerted residents to the fire. There were no reported injuries.
