Truck Spills Cargo Of Car Batteries, Summit Bridge Road Closed All Day

Middletown – At approximately 10:15 this morning, Tuesday, December 26, 2017, a tractor trailer overturned on Summit Bridge Road between Boyds Corner Road/ Churchtown Road and Armstrong Corner Road / Marlpit Road.

Delaware State Police, along with crews from the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown responded to the scene and found the tractor trailer overturned and blocking the roadway. Officials quickly determined that the truck was hauling car batteries and that the cargo was leaking battery acid onto the road.

Crews from the Belvedere Fire Company’s responded with HAZMAT 30 and CAT 30, their Bobcat Skid-Steer Loader, from the Prices Corner area. HAZMAT crews worked for most of the day to clean up the crash scene.

No injuries were reported by authorities

At last check 6:40 pm the road remains closed. Seek alternate routes of travel as delays can be expected on all surrounding roadways due to the closure.
