Fleeing Suspect Jumps In Christina River

File

New Castle – Just before 11:00 this morning, a suspect lead the Delaware River and Bay Authority Police (DRBA), along with Delaware State Police on a chase that ended with the suspect all wet.

Authorities attempted a traffic stop near the I-95 on ramp to I-495, when the driver reportedly fled from police on foot.

As authorities chased the suspect Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation Unit) and K9 units were dispatched.

As officers closed in the suspect jumped into the Christina River, according to reports.

Officers worked to apprehend the fleeing suspect but it’s unclear whether the officers entered the water or if the suspect exited  on their own.

The suspect was transported to the Delaware River and Bay Authority Police holding unit. Ambulance crews from Holloway Terrace Fire Company were summoned to treat someone, believed to be the suspect, for cold exposure.

Authorities have not released any charges at this  time.
