Crash Into Newark Utility Pole Traps One, Driver Charged With DUI


Newark –  On Thursday February 22, 2018 at approximately 1:47 a.m. the Newark Police responded to the area of South College Avenue and Welsh Tract Road for a report of a single vehicle collision into a utility pole, according to Newark Police.

Officials said officers arrived to find a green 1995 BMW 4s with one occupant in the driver’s seat. The occupant was trapped in the vehicle, unresponsive and holding a bottle of beer in his hand, according to officials.  Crews with Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder responded to the scene, extricated the subject, and transported him to Christiana Hospital for treatment of possible injuries.

Police have identified the driver as 25-year-old Andrew Pierce of Chesapeake City, Maryland.

Pierce was charged with 2nd Offense DUI, Failure to Maintain a Lane and No Proof of Insurance. Pierce remains in the hospital.
