A man who allegedly entered a Kent County barn and attempting to engage in a sexual act with a pony remains wanted by Delaware authorities eight years after his arrest.
Adelio A. Guzman, formerly of Camden, continues to appear in Delaware’s wanted-person database, according to records checked recently.
The Delaware Department of Justice wanted-person listing identifies an outstanding capias associated with Guzman’s failure to appear in court on charges involving an attempted sexual act with an animal and third-degree burglary.
The case dates back to October 2, 2018, when Delaware State Police responded to a shooting in the unit block of Pony Track Road in the Camden-Wyoming area at approximately 9:37 p.m.
Investigators said a 73-year-old homeowner and his 65-year-old wife were alerted to an intruder inside their barn when an alarm activated. The couple went to investigate and discovered Guzman on the property.
The homeowner discharged a firearm, striking Guzman in his lower extremities. Guzman, then 45, was transported to a hospital for treatment. Neither homeowner was injured.
Police subsequently determined that Guzman had allegedly entered the property without permission on previous occasions. On October 12, 2018, Guzman surrendered to Delaware State Police at Troop 3 and was charged with attempting to engage in a sexual act involving an animal, two counts of third-degree burglary, three counts of first-degree criminal trespass, attempted animal cruelty, animal cruelty and criminal mischief. The arrest followed an earlier incident at the same property in August 2018, when a pony was sexually assaulted inside its stall.
At the time, Delmarva Equine Clinic reported that the animal had suffered significant trauma but was expected to recover. The clinic urged horse owners to monitor their barns and report suspicious activity.
First State Update previously confirmed that the October shooting occurred at the same property where the August incident had taken place. Authorities did not publicly establish that Guzman was responsible for the earlier assault.
Guzman was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $11,750 unsecured bond. He was was scheduled to stand trial in May 2019 but failed to appear, resulting in a warrant for his arrest.
