Truck Slams Into Utility Pole In Claymont, One To Hospital By Air

Claymont – At approximately 3:00 this afternoon rescue crews from the Claymont Fire Company responded to the 600 block of Harvey Road for reports of a vehicle’s accident involving a utility pole.

Upon arrival, crews found a blue Dodge pickup truck that crashed into a utility pole and one patient with serious injuries. As crews worked to treat the patient authorities determined that Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation) would be utilized for transport.

Once alerted, Trooper 4, who was in the middle of assisting State and County Police in a search for three suspects near Kirkwood Highway, quickly diverted to the Claymont scene.

It’s believed that the patient was transported to the hospital with a trauma alert called.

Troopers release a short statement around 3:00 regarding the incident. The statement read “Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a serious motor vehicle crash, that occurred at approximately 2:23 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2018, which has Harvey Road closed in the area of Madison Avenue, Claymont. A utility pole has been damaged and wires are reportedly down in the roadway. Motorists should expect delays in the area and are asked to seek alternate routes of travel.”
