Bear Woman Dies At Shock Trauma After Crash In Cecil County

North East – On March 1, 2018 just after 1:00 AM, troopers from the North East barrack responded to the intersection of Frenchtown Rd and Augustine Herman Hwy (MD 213) in Elkton for a two vehicle collision. Upon their arrival, troopers located a black Nissan Altima and a maroon Chevy Suburban that collided in the intersection.

The preliminary investigation revealed the Nissan was traveling westbound on Frenchtown Rd attempting to cross MD-213 when it was struck on the passenger side by the Chevy, which was traveling southbound on MD-213, according to police. The Nissan was operated by Luciano Greenough, 23, of Bear Delaware, he was transported by ambulance to Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Troopers detected signs of possible impairment from Greenough, said police. Jennifer Smith, 20, of Bear Delaware, was a passenger in the Nissan and was flown to Shock Trauma by State Police medevac. Smith succumbed to her injuries early this morning, and was pronounced deceased at Shock Trauma.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team responded to the scene, and assistance from the State Highway Administration was provided for the road closure. The intersection of Frenchtown Rd and MD-213 was closed in all directions for approximately five hours.
