Delaware River And Bay Authority Announces I-295 Construction Closures

New Castle – Today, Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) officials announced that its contractor, Mumford and Miller, is planning to install structural steel related to the I-295 Southbound Reconstruction Project west of the Delaware Memorial Bridge toll plaza to the I-95/I-495 split. This construction work will take place on the I-295 SB overpass of U.S. Route 13, according to DRBA Public Information Officer James Salmon.

Salmon said the contractor is scheduled to close and detour traffic on U.S. Route 13 southbound at the construction area on March 20 and March 21. The detour, which will direct motorists to I-295 SB to the ramp for Route 141 NB to I-95 SB to Route 141 SB to I-295 NB to the exit for U.S. Route 13 SB, will be in place from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. both nights.

On March 26 through March 28, the contractor plans to close and detour traffic on U.S. Route 13 northbound at the construction area. During the period from 8:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. on these dates, U.S. Route 13 northbound traffic will be diverted to I-295NB to exit for U.S. Route 9NB to exit for I-295SB to the exit for U.S. Route 13NB.

Minimal delays are expected. The safety of the traveling public and on-site highway contractors is the agency’s highest priority. Motorists are urged to be careful and stay alert in and around construction zones, obey all posted speed limit signs, and add some additional time to reach their final destination.
