Bear – Earlier this morning, just before 8:30 rescue crews from the Christiana Fire Company, along with New Castle County Paramedics, Delaware State Police and Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation) responded to Route 40 at Salem Church Road for reports of two pedestrians that were reportedly struck by school bus.

Early reports indicate that ambulance crews, along with medics transported one adult female patient to Christiana Hospital’s Trauma Center in critical condition.

Trooper 4 landed on the roadway and transported a small child to AI Dupont’s Trauma Center, also in serious condition, according to the reports.

The initial radio reports indicated that a woman and her child were struck.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently on scene investigating incident. All eastbound lanes of U.S. Route 40 were initially closed while crews worked to treat the patients. Those lanes have been reopened.

Porter Road is closed in both directions near the intersection as Troopers investigate.

No students were on the bus at the time of the accident according to a witness at the scene.
