Latest Shooting Ends A Two-Week Cease Fire, Still Overall Shootings Down 37%

Wilmington – On Wednesday, 28 March 2018, Wilmington Police were summoned to the unit block of W. 27th Street, with regard to a ‘shots fired’ complaint.

Upon arrival, officers located spent shell casings in the block. While investigating the scene, officers were advised that a 20-year-old male subject had walked in to the Wilmington Hospital and was suffering from a gunshot wound to his ankle. The male victim was treated and is in stable condition.

This is the first shooting since the March 14, 2018 homicide that occurred in theĀ 100 block of N. Broom Street.

Last year, from January 1 – March 29, Wilmington Police reported 49 people shot. Since the beginning of this year 18 people have been shot, a 37% decrease in the number of shootings.

Of those reported shot between January 1 – March 29, 2017, 13 were fatally wounded. Five fatal shootings have been reported in the first quarter of 2017, a 38% decrease in shooting deaths.
