House Fire Shuts Down Neighborhood, Bus Driver Makes Sure Kids Get Home Safe

Investigators from the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating a fire that occurred at the Walden Townhomes on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters from across New Castle County were dispatched to Solitude Way, for reports of a kitchen fire. Upon arrival, crews from the Mill Creek Fire Company reported smoke showing from the home.

The fire occurred just after 3:30, just as area schools were dismissing their students. A school bus driver, dropping off students in the neighborhood, found the main road blocked.

The driver realizing he was stuck behind all of the fire apparatus and emergency vehicles, parked his bus and walked the kids to their stops.

No injuries have been reported.
