Newark – Newark Police have responded to South College Avenue and Route 4 for reports a tree down on a vehicle.

Arriving officers have made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and are reporting that there are no injuries.

Traffic is being diverted onto side streets just north of the South Collage Ave train bridge.

The tree is blocking the roadway just as a University of Delaware event is letting out at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Officers have asked for a public works response. This will be a long delay. Use alternate routes.

Update: Initial reports indicated that the tree was on the vehicle. It now appears that the tree struck the vehicle or the vehicle struck the tree as it fell.

The vehicle was not under the tree when crews moved it to the side of the road. Police are currently taking a report from a driver just south of where the tree fell.
