DOC: Inmate Pleads Guilty To Falsely Reporting That Officer Raped Him

Sussex County – In December 2017, an Inmate, housed at the Sussex Correctional Institution (SCI), filed a false Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) claim, according to Delaware Department of Correction Community Relations Officer Jamie Young.

Young said inmate Oscar Williams accused an officer of sexually assaulting him in a bathroom located within his housing unit. At the conclusion of the internal investigation, it was revealed that Williams fabricated the claim and the case was then turned over to Delaware State Police (DSP), according to Yound.

Williams was charged with one count of Falsely Reporting an Incident. On July 23, 2018, Williams pled guilty in Superior Court and was sentenced to one year level 5 and to have no contact with the Officer.

The Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA) is the first United States federal law intended to deter the sexual assaults of prisoners.
