Two Children Resuscitated After Drowning On Fourth Of July, Both In Critical Condition

Last night, July 4, at approximately 7:30 p.m., New Castle County Police Patrol Officers were dispatched to the unit block of Franklin Avenue, in the community of Claymont Terrace, for reports of a missing 4-year old child.

Upon arrival, the officers interviewed family members and began a search of the area. After a brief search, authorities alerted dispatch that the child had been found and that CPR was underway. The child was located in the family’s swimming pool by the patrol officers, according to police.

 

The child was transported by Claymont Fire Company Ambulance to AI Dupont with a full crew of New Castle County Paramedics accompanying.  The child was listed critical condition at the time of transport.

Earlier in the day, at approximately 5:50 p.m., New Castle County Patrol Officers, rescue crews from the Christiana Fire Company and New Castle County Paramedics were dispatched to the 200 block of Christiana Road for a 15-year old male who was rescued from the water by a lifeguard, who was performing CPR on the victim, according to Corporal David McKinney, Jr.

 

Upon arrival, County Paramedics worked in tandem with the fire department and police personnel to resuscitate the victim. He was transported to the Emergency Department at Christiana Hospital on board an ambulance from the Christiana Fire Company with the assistance of New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in critical condition at the time of this release.It is unknown how long the victim was in the water or the circumstances leading up to the patient being rescued, said McKinney.
