Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating the armed robbery of a Wilmington area Royal Farms that took place early Sunday morning, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m., Sunday, August 5, 2018, at the Royal Farms, located at 3701 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington. A suspect armed with a handgun entered the store via the rear entrance doors and confronted an employee and five patrons at the sales counter, according to Austin. The suspect proceeded to order all of the patrons to get down on the floor, striking one of them in the head with the handgun in the process. The suspect then ordered the employee to turn over all the money from the register while pointing the gun directly at him. As the employee was gathering the money the suspect grew impatient and pulled the trigger, however, the weapon did not fire, said Austin. The employee ultimately turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect who then fled through the rear doors of the business. The patron who was initially struck by the suspect was the only subject injured during the incident however medical treatment was declined, according to Austin.

The suspect was described as a black male, 6’0”-6’2”, 150-170 lbs., thin build, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, black pants, with a white cloth covering his face and in possession of a black, unknown make and model handgun
