Troopers: Man Pistol-Whipped, Robbed At New Castle Motel, Gun Recovered, Suspect Sought

New Castle – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating an incident at a New Castle area motel in which the victim was pistol-whipped and robbed, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 12:16 p.m., Sunday, August 5, 2018, at the Best Knight Inn located at 1200 West Avenue, New Castle. A 30-year-old Claymont man was on a second-floor balcony of the motel when he was confronted by a suspect who was armed with a handgun. The suspect proceeded to strike the victim in the head and face with the handgun and then took an undisclosed amount of money from him before fleeing, according to Austin. The victim was treated at the Christiana Hospital for lacerations to his head and face.

Through further investigation Troopers obtained a search warrant for one of the motel rooms, resulting in the recovery of a fully loaded Smith & Wesson .38 revolver which is believed to be the weapon used in the assault.

The suspect was described as a black male, 40 years of age, 5’9”, 175-200 lbs.,
