Cyclist Succumbs To Injuries After Fatal Collision In Dover

The Dover Police Department is investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Friday, September 14th, according to M/Cpl. Mark Hoffman, Public Information Officer.

Hoffman said at approximately 9:26 am, Emmanuel Collazo, 41, was operating a bicycle in the southbound bike lane of US Route 13, just north of College Road in a southbound direction. At that time a 2003 VW Jetta was crossing into the right turn lane from the right travel lane and struck the rear of the victim’s bicycle, according to Hoffman.

The force of the collision caused Collazo to be ejected from the bicycle and onto the hood of the vehicle, causing major injuries. Collazo was admitted to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for treatment and succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, September 16th.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in this incident. Potential charges are pending further investigation of the incident, said Hoffman.
