City Of Newark Proposes Tax, Fees Increase, Up To 20%

Officials with the City of Newark want to raise your taxes again. In a budget proposal laid out last week, Acting City Manager Tom Coleman and Finance Director David Del Grande say they need around $95 million dollars. That’s $8 million more than last year’s budget.

Del Grande would like to increase taxes 4 percent, raise the water rate by 4.5 percent,  raise the sewer rate up by 3.8 percent and the new stormwater rate would jump a whopping 20 percent.

If the budget is approved as proposed the average resident will pay about $70 more a year.
