18 Sent To Hospital After Two Delaware School Bus Crashes

At 3:11 this afternoon, Thursday, November 29, 2018, Sussex County rescue crews, along with Delaware State Police responded to Harbeson Road north of Johnson Road in Harbeson for reports of a two-vehicle accident involving a school bus.

A Delaware State Fire Marshal, first on the scene, reported that the bus was off the road with 25 to 30 students onboard.

Early indications are that three people were transported by ambulance to area hospitals. The remaining students were transported back to school using another bus.

At around the same time that Sussex County authorities were dealing with the Harbeson Road crash, New Castle County authorities began receiving reports that a multi-vehicle accident involving a loaded school bus had occurred on I-95.

The Delaware State Police said that they were investigating a crash involving four vehicles, one of which was a school bus that was transporting students from Delcastle Technical High School.

In that crash, a total of thirteen students on board the bus and two adults from the other vehicles involved were transported to area hospitals.

On scene, command reported that all of the injuries were “walking wounded”. The injuries were believed to be minor neck, face, and arm injuries.

Harbeson Road remained closed between Hurtle Ditch Road and Hollyville Road while authorities investigated the crash.

The  I-95/295 NB split in the area of Route 141 was restricted to one lane while crews worked to clear that accident.
