New Castle County Division of Police is actively investigating a Homicide that occurred in the community Claymont Addition, according to New Castle County Spokesperson G. Lopez Garcia.
Garcia said earlier this morning, November 8, 2018. at 12:48, New Castle County Police officers were dispatched to a shooting which had occurred on the unit block of New York Avenue. When the officers arrived, they discovered one 59-year-old female victim inside a residence. The victim had an apparent gunshot wound and was later pronounced deceased by New Castle County Paramedics.
A male suspect, 59-year-old Joseph R. Slider, was detained at the scene by the initial responding patrol officers.
Detectives from the New Castle County Homicide Squad subsequently assumed the investigation. Based on their investigative efforts this afternoon, (November 8th) 59-year-old Joseph R. Slider was arrested and charged.
Joseph R. Slider was charged with one count of Felony Murder 1st, one count of felony Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony and one count of felony Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited.
He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $570,000 secured bail.
