Troopers: Suspect Uses Unusual Weapon During Robbery

The Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a north Wilmington Walgreens in which the cashier was threatened with pepper spray, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 9:05 p.m., Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the Walgreens pharmacy located at 1508 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington. A male suspect approached the sales counter while displaying a canister of pepper spray and then threatened to spray the cashier while demanding cigarettes, according to Austin. The employee complied with the demand by turning over multiple packs of cigarettes to the suspect who then fled in an unknown direction. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspect was described as a black male, wearing all dark clothing and a knit hat.
