Wilmington Police Investigation Leads To Indictment In 2016 Shooting

A Wilmington Police (WPD) investigation has led to an indictment related to a 2016 case.

On February 4, a New Castle County Grand Jury returned an indictment against 18-year-old Sha’mir Sudler for the following charges:

Attempted Murder (First Degree)
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
Possession of Ammunition by a Person Prohibited

On March 11, 2016, at approximately 6:11 p.m., police responded to the 600 block of Taylor Street after receiving a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located Ryan Schneese lying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. Police rendered aid before the victim was transported to the hospital. Later that month, on March 31, 2016, the victim succumbed to his injuries, according to police.

Through extensive investigative measures of the WPD Criminal Investigations Division, Sudler was developed as a suspect.

Sudler, who is currently an inmate at Sussex Correctional Institution, has been arraigned on the above charges and committed on $340,000 cash-only bail.
