Just In: Two Women Thrown From Car After Hitting Tree In Dover, One Succumbs

Dover– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a single vehicle that occurred early this morning, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on March 7, 2019, at approximately 1:48 a.m., when a 2008 Volkswagen Passat was traveling northbound on Pearson’s Corner Road (CR 101) south of Dinah’s Corner Road. The Passat was traveling at a high rate of speed when it entered a moderate right curve causing it to exit the roadway and strike a private mailbox and plastic trash can. The Passat continued northbound across a private yard and struck a pine tree. The impact caused both the operator and passenger to be ejected from the vehicle.

The operator, a 20-year-old female from Smyrna, DE was not properly restrained and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

The passenger, a 26-year-old female from Smyrna, DE was not properly restrained and was transported to the Christiana Hospital where she was admitted in serious condition with non-life threatening injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately 5 hours while the crash was investigated.
