Troopers Release Name OF Women Killed In Millsboro Accident

The Delaware State Police have released the name of the driver who was killed in a crash on March 20, 2019, as 80-year-old Joann E. Smith of Millsboro.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Millsboro- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a single vehicle that occurred earlier today.

The incident occurred on March 20, 2019, at approximately 3:34 p.m., when a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling eastbound on Lowes Crossing Road (CR 61), just east of Pear Tree Road (CR 424). For unknown reasons, the Equinox exited the roadway and struck a large standing tree, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the driver, an 80-year-old female from Millsboro was properly restrained.  She was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury where she was later pronounced deceased.  Her name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Lowes Crossing Road was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
