Troopers Release Name Of Driver Who Died After Crashing Into Middletown Fire Truck

Middletown- The Delaware State Police have identified the driver who was killed in a crash April 13, 2019, on US 301, north of Bunker Hill Road, as 57-year-old Alan C. Edmonds of Wilmington.

The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Middletown- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred last evening, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at approximately 7:57 p.m., when a marked fire truck, was traveling northbound on US 301, north of Bunker Hill Road. Tower 27 from the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown was responding to the area to assist an injured motorist that had struck a deer.

Just as Tower 27, with all of its emergency lights activated, arrived on scene it was struck from behind by a 2009 Acura TL that was also traveling northbound on US 301. Rescue crews immediately reported that Tower 27 had been struck and requested that additional rescue crews and Trooper 4 respond to the scene. Command ordered the road closed.

The operator of the fire truck, a 34-year-old man from Middletown was properly restrained and declined treatment at the scene.

The operator of the Acura, a 57-year-old male from Wilmington was properly restrained and pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Northbound US 301, north of Bunker Hill Road was closed for approximately 2 ½ hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The condition of the patient from the original accident is unknown at this time.
