Delaware Arson Investigators Asking For Public’s Assistance

A fire that heavily damaged a Seaford, Delaware home on May 1, 2019 was determined to be intentionally started by a person or persons igniting items inside the unoccupied home, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

The Seaford Volunteer Fire Company responded to the 800 block of Hurley Park Drive shortly before 8:00 pm and found an active fire inside the dwelling. Shortly thereafter a 2nd fire was reported in the 400 block of North Arch Street. The fires do not appear to be related, said Chionchio.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating this arson and is asking for the public’s help by providing any information pertaining to this fire or any home surveillance footage showing any individuals in the area at the time of the fire.

Tipsters may call Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 or the State Fire Marshal’s – Sussex Division at (302) 856-5600.

Damage was estimated at $250,000. There were no reported injuries.
