Troopers: Suspect Slashed Clerk During Armed Robbery Attempt

The Delaware State Police are investigating the knifepoint robbery of a Newark area liquor store in which the clerk was cut by the suspect, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 6:16 p.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Peddlers Liquor Store, located at 10 W. Main St., in Newark. A male suspect confronted the clerk at the sales counter while brandishing a knife and demanded cash, said Austin. The clerk refused to comply with the suspect’s demand and retrieved a baseball bat from behind the counter.

The clerk then proceeded to chase the suspect out of the business where a physical altercation took place, which resulted in the clerk being cut by the suspect, according to Austin. The suspect, who did not obtain any property or money, was last seen fleeing the area in a white vehicle which was parked nearby. The clerk was treated on scene for a laceration to his hand.

The suspect was described as a black male, 20-30 years of age, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a cloth covering his face.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective T. Dukes of the Troop 2 Robbery Unit by calling 302-365-8412.
