Police: Stabbing In Wilmington Involved Large Fight, Machetes

Last night, July 3, 2019, at approximately 8:00 p.m., patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the unit block of Mary Ella drive in the community of Chestnut Run Village for the report of a person who had been stabbed.

As the officers were responding to the scene, they began to receive numerous calls regarding a large fight involving machetes, and baseball bats. Upon their arrival, officers located a 47-year-old male victim and had him transported to a local hospital. He was later treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Patrol officers then learned that the suspects had fled into an area apartment building so officers set up a perimeter.  Officers were eventually able to make contact with 26-year-old Mario Alberto Lara-Landeros, and 34-year-old Alejandro Mendoza. After a brief investigation, both suspects were taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for minor injuries received in the fight. After being treated they were transported to the New Castle County Division of Police Headquarters.

Both Mario Lara-Landeros and Alejandro Mendoza were charged with one count each: felony Aggravated Menacing, felony Conspiracy Second Degree and misdemeanor Assault Third Degree. They were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $4000 secured bail.

Officers sake if you have any information and/or video pertaining to this investigation, please contact New Castle County Division of Police at (302) 573-2800.
