Troopers: Women Sprayed Chemical Into Victim’s Eyes During Robbery

The Delaware State Police have arrested two women in connection with a robbery after they sprayed the victim in the eyes with a chemical and took his wallet, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on July 27, 2019, at approximately 11:52 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to a residence in the 8000 block of Concord Road in Blades for a report of a robbery.

Upon arrival, Troopers met with a 50-year-old male resident who advised that two females had responded to his residence demanding money, according to Jaffe. The victim advised he knew the one female, 30-year-old Nicole B. Griffith of Laurel, as she has continued to ask him for money, claiming to be the mother of one of his children.

Jaffe said Griffith and the other female, later identified as 24-year-old Jamie E. Hawkins of Seaford, proceeded to spray the victim in the eyes with a chemical, causing his eyes to burn and swell.

The two suspects then struck the victim when one of the females reached into his pockets and removed his wallet. The females were able to flee the area with the wallet containing an undisclosed amount of cash, said Jaffe. The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated and cleared on scene by medical personnel.

On August 1, 2019, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Griffith and Hawkins were taken into custody at the Sunrise Motel located at 22512 Sussex Highway, Seaford, without incident. They were transported back to Troop 5 where they were charged with the following:

Robbery First Degree
Assault Second Degree
Conspiracy Second Degree
Theft
Offensive Touching
Criminal Trespass
Griffith and Hawkins were arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and both committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $63,150.00 cash only bond.
