Teen Inmate Learns He Is Now Facing 1st Degree Murder Charge

Blades- Delaware State Police Homicide Unit has arrested a 16-year-old juvenile male of Millsboro for Murder 1st degree and related charges following a homicide investigation in Blades.

Public Information Officer, Senior Corporal Jason Hatchell said on June 19, 2021, at approximately 10:49 p.m., Delaware State Police were dispatched to a shots fired complaint in the area of E. 4th Street in Blades. During the investigation, troopers discovered a 20-year-old male lying on the side of the roadway with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Through investigative means, detectives identified the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest said Hatchell. On December 30, 2021, troopers responded to the Ferris School, a secure facility where the suspect was being held. At the facility, the juvenile male was charged with Murder 1st Degree, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Robbery 1st Degree, and Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited.

The suspect was arraigned in the Family Court and remains in the custody of The Division of Youth Rehabilitative Services on $130,000 cash bond.
