Elderly Woman Attacked, Robbed In Grocery Store Parking Lot

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are investigating a purse snatching that took place in the parking lot of a Prices Corner area grocery store on Wednesday evening, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 6:55 p.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2019, in the parking lot of the Acme grocery store, located at 1308 Centerville Rd., Wilmington. A 71-year-old female had just exited the Acme and was walking to her vehicle while pushing her shopping cart when a male suspect approached her from behind and grabbed her purse which was on her shoulder.

A brief struggle ensued and the victim was knocked to the ground at which time the suspect was able to gain possession of the purse. The suspect was last seen on foot on Old Capitol Trail in the area of the Cranston Hall apartment complex. The victim sustained minor injuries from the fall but refused medical treatment.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans.
