Report: Shots Fired At Water Tower Again While Police Are On Scene

Wilmington – We are receiving multiple reports that someone is once again shooting at the water tower that was damaged by gunfire over the weekend.

We’re hearing that at least two shots were fired about 30 minutes apart. Police were reportedly on scene when the second round was fired.

Trooper 4 is currently fly a tight pattern around the scene.

On Friday, May 1, 2020, at approximately 10:50 P.M. Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the area of Washington Avenue in reference to a shots fired call, according to a New Castle County Police Spokesman.

Officials said once the officers arrived to the area, they learned that the SUEZ water tower located at 117 Washington Ave, Wilmington, had been struck. Upon closer examination, it was discovered that the water tower had two holes which caused a leak from it. At this time, the structural integrity of the tower is intact and there is no immediate threat to the neighboring communities.

Brandywine – Police are investigating gunfire that apparently left a water tower damaged overnight.

At around 10:30 last evening, Friday, May 1, New Castle County Police responded to the Stratford Apartments located at 3120 Naamans Road for reports of shots fired, according to residents in the complex.

One resident said arriving police canvased the area with their flashlights looking for evidence and left the area.

At around 11:30 residents said they heard another round of gunfire. This time the sound of the rounds hitting the tower was very loud and vibrated nearby windows. It’s not clear if police responded to the second round of gunfire.

Crews with Suez Water were called out to the scene at 11:45 to assess the damage. At least two shots appear to have struck the tower causing it to leak water heavily, according to the crews on scene.

The water tower will have to be taken offline to repair the damage according to Suez.
