Troopers Update Fatal Motorcycle Crash In Wilmington

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a fatal crash involving a motorcycle that occurred at approximately 11:21 a.m., Monday, May 4, 2020 on the northbound I-95 on-ramp from MLK Jr. Blvd., in the area of W. 2nd St., Wilmington.

The initial investigation has determined that a 2009 Yamaha R6, operated by a 27-year-old Wilmington man, was traveling west on the on-ramp from MLK Jr. Blvd., to proceed northbound on I-95. As the Yamaha approached a sharp right curve it failed to remain in the lane and veered left, striking a concrete barrier. Upon impact the operator was ejected off the motorcycle and thrown over the barrier, coming to rest in a surface parking lot approximately 50 feet below the elevated roadway, where he was pronounced deceased.

Identification of the victim is pending notification of next of kin.

The on-ramp from MLK Jr. Blvd to I-95 was closed for approximately 1 hour 45 minutes while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Cpl. J. Forester of the Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit by calling 302-365-8485.
