Woman Killed In 4th Of July Rollover Crash In Dover Identified

The Delaware State Police have identified the woman who died in a crash on July 4, 2020, on Bay Road (SR 1), Dover, as 24-year-old  Jasmyn D. Brummell of Frederica.

Original Story

Dover- The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a single vehicle that occurred early this morning, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on July 4, 2020, at approximately 3:54 a.m., when a 2004 Saturn Vue SUV was southbound on Bay Road (SR 1) south of Exit 92 approaching the on-ramp / merge lane from Exit 92 to (SR 1). For unknown reasons the operator veered off the west edge of the roadway and struck a metal light pole with its front bumper. After impact, the vehicle continued southbound traveling across the on-ramp lane and onto the shoulder striking a concrete barrier and flipping on its roof.

The operator of the Saturn, a 24-year-old Frederica woman was not properly restrained and was ejected. She was transported to the Kent Bayhealth Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Her name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

Bay Road (SR 1) was closed for approximately 4 hours while the accident was investigated and cleared.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Breaking Report

Dover – Just before 4:00, Saturday morning rescue crews from Dover Fire along with Dover AFB Firefighters, EMTs from St Francis, Kent County Medics, Trooper 4, and Trooper 2 were dispatched to Route 1 SB in the area of Dover Air Force Base for a motor vehicle accident.

While en route to the scene crews learned that a vehicle had rolled over and at least one patient was ejected from the vehicle.

Shortly after crews arrived on scene, Trooper 2 was informed that they would be utilized. Trooper 2 advised a 12 minute ETA. Command confirming a single-vehicle rollover with ejection.

Command then ordered the road closed asking for DELDOT to respond to the scene.

Upon their arrival, Trooper 2 landed in the southbound lanes of Route 1 near the crash site.

At around 4:30 Saturday morning Command placed the incident under control.

The condition of the patient, a female, is unclear at this time.

As of 7:56 am DelDOT crews remained on scene cleaning up the scene.
