Troopers Investigating Fatal Tree Trimming Accident In Harrington

Harrington- The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred yesterday, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on August 24, 2020, at approximately 10:22 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the 12000 block of Pin Oak Lane in Harrington, in reference to an accident. Upon the Trooper’s arrival, paramedics were attending to a 59-year-old male patient. Further investigation revealed that the victim was cutting down a tree branch when the branch snapped and struck the boom lift in which the victim was standing. The victim fell out of the bucket and approximately 40 feet to the ground, said Jaffe.

The patient was transported to the Sussex Bayhealth Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The man was turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death. His name is being withheld at this time.
