Several Residents Displaced By Thursday Morning Fire

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined that this morning’s building fire in New Castle was accidental, Delaware State Fire Marshal Chief Deputy Robert Fox said Thursday.

Just after 1:40 Thursday morning the Goodwill Fire Company was alerted to a fire in the 300 block of Bay West Blvd., in the Riverview Industrial Park. Upon the firefighters’  arrival, they found heavy smoke and fire conditions coming from the building. Several fire companies responded to assist with extinguishment.

Deputies from the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and have determined that the fire originated in a garage below occupied apartments and was caused by an unknown electrical malfunction.

The fire caused approximately 200,000 dollars in damage to the residence. No one was injured during the fire. Several residents of the apartments have been displaced and are being assisted by the owner of the property, said Fox.
