Troopers: Motel Room “Business Deal” Ends In Gunfire

Bear– The Delaware State Police have arrested 20-year-old Corey Washington of Magnolia, 22-year-old Zavriel Watters of Dover, 23-year-old Sameer Dover of Philadelphia,PA, and 18-year-old Iris Longakit of Dover for Robbery and related charges, according to Public Information Officer, Corporal/1 Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said the incident occurred on September 2, 2020, at approximately 1:59 a.m. when Washington and Watters entered a room at the West Motel located at 711 Pulaski Highway in Bear, and made a business deal with two female acquaintances.

An argument occurred over the agreement on the deal which lead to Washington placing a 30-year-old female victim from Bear in a chokehold and pointing a gun at her head, according to Hatchell. Watters then grabbed the second victim, a 35-year-old female from Bear, placed her in a chokehold, and stole both the victim’s cell phones and money, added Hatchell. The suspects fled the room on foot and were chased by three male associates of the women. During the foot chase, Washington fired eight 9mm rounds from a black semi-automatic handgun at the three male victims, a 38-year-old male, 37-year-old male, and a 29-year-old male all from Bear. The suspects then fled in a maroon Honda Accord.

No one was struck by gunfire, and the victims did not require medical attention from the incident.

After further investigation, Troopers located Washington and Dover who returned to the crime scene at the motel and took them into custody without incident. In addition, Troopers located the Honda Accord used by the suspects to flee the scene at a nearby business. Inside of the vehicle, Troopers located two additional suspects, Watters and Longakit, and took them into custody without incident. Investigation revealed Dover was the operator of the Honda Accord used to flee the scene and both he and Longakit were accomplices to the shots fired, said Hatchell.
