Multiple Patients Transported After Accident Closes Route 1 Early Saturday

Just before 1:40, Saturday morning rescue crews responded to Route 1 in the area of the Milford Bypass for a rollover crash with injuries.

While en route to the scene crews were told that at least two vehicles were involved and that a pedestrian may have been struck.  Upon arrival, crews advised Kent Center that multiple vehicles were involved and that at least four patients were being evaluated.  Moments later Command advised Kent Center to start aviation.

Minutes later Command reported that there were injuries on both sides of Route 1 and asked for traffic control for the north and south lanes. While crews worked to free one patient from a vehicle another patient was transported to the hospital in very serious condition. Command then asked for three additional ambulances bringing the total to at least four. The helicopter was then recalled by medics on scene.

As crews continued to work the scene they learned that the first patient transported was ejected from their vehicle. They also learned that a second person may have also been ejected from the same vehicle. Crews searched the area and reported they found tracks but no patient.

Carlisle Fire Company ambulance EMT’s along with Kent County Medic 10 transported one patient to Bayhealth Hospital Sussex in serious condition.
Houston Fire Company ambulance 52 transported four patients from one vehicle.
Crews on scene did not mention anything about a pedestrian being struck.

This is a developing story. Additional details will be released when they become available.
