Police: Two Charged With Robbing Fellow Customer At Pawn Shop

New Castle– The Delaware State Police have arrested 18-year-old Jonice Diggs of New Castle, DE, and 19-year-old Keshawn Parker of New Castle, DE, for a robbery that occurred yesterday afternoon, according to Public Information Officer, Corporal/1 Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said the incident occurred on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at approximately 2:00 p.m., when two suspects approached a 57-year-old female victim in the parking lot of the Newark Pawn Shop located at 2709 Pulaski Highway in New Castle as she was seated inside of her vehicle. One suspect approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, displayed a handgun, and demanded all of her money and belongings, said Hatchell. At the same time, the second suspect approached the front passenger side of the vehicle and removed the victim’s purse and backpack which contained jewelry, cash, and electronics. A brief struggle ensued over the belongings which caused a minor injury to the victim’s arm. The suspects then fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan.

Further investigation revealed the suspects were inside of the pawnshop at the same time as the victim and approached her after she exited the business. Troopers were able to identify the suspect’s as Jonice Diggs and Keshawn Parker, according to Hatchell. Troopers responded to the suspect’s residence and took them into custody without incident. Upon taking the suspects into custody troopers discovered a loaded handgun, the stolen electronics, and over $500 in stolen cash.

Both suspects were transported to Troop 2, where they were charged with the following crimes:

Robbery 1st Degree (Felony)
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony)
Diggs was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to Delores J. Baylor Correctional Institution in lieu of $52,000 cash bail.

Parker

Robbery 1st Degree (Felony)
Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon a Firearm (Felony)
Receiving a Stolen Firearm (Felony)
Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony)
Parker was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $87,000 cash bail.
