Teen Bicyclist Injured In Lewes Accident Succumbs To Her Injuries

Lewes – A 19-year-old female that was seriously injured during an accident on June 17, 2021, succumbs to her injuries, Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Heather Pepper.

Pepper said on June 17, 2021, at approximately 5:38 p.m., a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck towing a dual axle dump trailer, operated by a Georgetown man, was traveling westbound on Shady Road approaching the intersection of Plantations Road with a green light. Madison Cunningham,19, of Douglasville, PA, was riding her bicycle westbound on Shady Road in the designated bike lane.

As the pickup truck started through the intersection, the bicyclist failed to see the pickup truck and trailer before turning left and impacting the right side of the trailer within the middle of the intersection, said Pepper. As a result of the impact, Cunningham was knocked to the ground. She was flown to an area hospital where she was admitted in critical condition. On Friday, June 18, 2021, Cunningham succumbed to her injuries.
