Fleeing Car Crashes Through Head-On Collison Accident Scene Early Sunday

Just after 5:30 Sunday morning Delaware County rescue crews responded to I-95 SB in the area of Chichester Avenue for reports of a head-on collision with injures.

While en route crews were told that a driver driving northbound in the southbound lanes of I-95 collided with a vehicle heading southbound.

First arriving reported a total of four patients with two trapped. Crews were able to free the two patients, however, it is not known how many were transported to the hospital.

As crews were working the incident they learned that a police chase was headed southbound along I-95 right towards the crash scene. Crews on scene then made everyone aware of the chase.

Minutes later crews were told the chase had been called off.  Just as that information came in there was a yell over the radio.  Car coming through yelled a fire police officer.

Rescue crews were able to avoid injury, however, several vehicles were reportedly struck by the fleeing vehicle. Police on scene at the accident then gave chase into Delaware.

It’s not clear if the suspect in the fleeing vehicle was captured in Delaware or if Delaware State Police joined the chase.
