Officials Update Wilmington House Fire With Entrapment

Just before 4:00 Thursday afternoon, the Wilmington Fire Department was alerted to a structure fire with occupants trapped in a home on E. 30th Street, according to Public Information Officer Captain Matthew Marsella.

Marsella said on arrival, Engine 3 reported smoke showing from the front of the two-story, middle of a row, single-family residential. Battalion Chief of District 1 assumed command of the incident and requested an additional
ambulance and new castle county medics to the scene.

Squad 4 and Ladder 1 crews worked to quickly find a resident on the second floor and removed them through the window and down to the ground using ground ladders.

Two occupants were transported to the hospital, with one in serious condition. A third patient suffered smoke inhalation while trying to assist in the rescue prior to fire department arrival.
The fire was extinguished and command placed the situation under control shortly before 5:00 pm.

Four residents have been displaced from the residence and currently are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The Fire Marshals Office is currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
