Police: 16-Year-Old Arrested After Bringing Gun To Dickinson High School

The Delaware State Police have arrested a 16-year-old juvenile male of Wilmington, on multiple weapons-related offenses, after it was determined that he was in possession of a firearm while in school, according to Public Information Officer, Senior Corporal Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said the incident occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2021, at John Dickinson High School, located at 1801 Milltown Road in Wilmington, when the School Resource Officer was notified that a student could possibly be in possession of a handgun. The trooper contacted the suspect inside of the school and escorted him to a secured vacant classroom. The trooper located a loaded 9mm handgun in the student’s waistband and took him into custody without incident. A computer search revealed the located handgun was stolen.

The juvenile male was transported to Troop 6 where he was charged with the following:

Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Juvenile (Felony)
Possession of a Weapon in a Safe School Zone (Felony)
Receiving a Stolen Firearm (Felony)
The juvenile was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $20,000.00 cash bond.
