Police: Man Charged In Thursday’s Double Shooting

Wilmington Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a January 20 shooting incident, officials said Monday.

Police said on January 20 at approximately 8:45 p.m.,  officers responded to the area of Sherman and Lombard Streets after they heard shots being fired. Police located a 25-year-old male gunshot victim, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition. Police also located a 23-year-old male gunshot victim, who arrived at the hospital in stable condition.

Responding officers observed a vehicle fleeing from the scene and attempted to stop the vehicle, which fled from officers. The car was then abandoned on South Heald Street near Rodgers Road, and the driver fled on foot before being taken into custody without incident.

The case was assigned to Detective Michael Hayman of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Hayman was able to identify the driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Jahmir Morris-Whitt, as a suspect in connection with the shooting incident that had occurred said police.

Morris-Whitt has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Resisting Arrest
  • Criminal Mischief – 3 Counts
  • Discharging a Firearm on a City Street

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $1,355,000 cash-only bail.
