Report: Newark Electric To Go Paperless For Some Due To Supply Chain Issues

The City of Newark is planning to stop mailing electric bills to residents according to a City Manager administrative report.

In a 2021 year-ending report City Manager Tom Coleman writes that due to an increase in the prices of paper the city will shift some city electric customers to ebill notifications.

The City has been advised by our paper and envelope supplier that materials will be in short supply in the near future.
In addition, we are beginning to experience increases in the prices of paper. As of November, the City had 2,885 customers set up for pre-authorized payment of their utility bills. Of this total, 1,841 are still receiving a printed bill. Shortly, we will be converting these customers to ebill notifications. If customers would like to begin receiving a paper bill again, they will be able to do so by logging on to their account to opt-out. Utility customers can review their bills online and set themselves up to have their payments automatically drafted from their checking account or from a credit card.
