Two Women Injured In Weekend Fire Succumb To Their Injuries

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal continues the investigation into the fire that heavily damaged a New Castle, Delaware house. Two female occupants, ages 90 and 72, have died at
the Christiana Hospital. The 72-year-old female died on April 2, 2022, and the 90-year-old female died on April 3, 2022. This fire remains under investigation.

The total fire deaths for this year in the State of Delaware is now 14 compared with 10 in 2021 said Chionchio.

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating this morning’s fire that heavily damaged a New Castle, Delaware house. Two occupants were critically injured in the fire,  according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly after 6:00 am, occurred in the unit block of Onaway Place in the Garfield Park neighborhood near New Castle Avenue. The Minquadale Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the one-story dwelling and two people trapped inside. Firefighters rescued the occupants from the burning house. Both victims were taken to the Christiana Hospital. They were admitted in critical condition. Initial reports that a child was one of the injured has not been confirmed by officials.

State fire investigators are currently on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause. Heavy fire damage was estimated at $100,000. This fire remains under investigation.
