Kent County DPW Says Their Phone Number Has Been Hacked

Kent County Department of Public Works is Experiencing Telephone Problems:
5/24/2022
On Tuesday Kent County Public Information Officer Kelly Pitts announced that the main telephone number for the Department of Public Works (DPW), 302-744-2430, has been hacked.

Pitts said that the telephone number appears on the resident’s caller id, however, she wanted to make the public aware that DPW is not making mass telephone calls. While they work to resolve the matter residents are asked to contact the Department of Public Works at 302-744-2429.

Verizon lists Caller ID spoofing on their website as “Caller ID spoofing is the practice of falsifying the information about an incoming call on the receiver’s caller ID display. Scammers will manipulate the caller ID so that the call appears to be coming from a local or well-known phone number, making it more likely to be trusted or answered.”
