Troopers Arrest Man In Attempted Stabbing

Delaware State Police have arrested 56-year-old Michael Fletcher of Wilmington, Delaware for aggravated menacing and other charges following an attempted stabbing that occurred on Saturday evening, according to Senior Corporal Leonard DeMalto.

DeMalto said on October 29, 2022, at approximately 6:11 p.m., troopers responded to the Total Wine & More business, located at 691 Naamans Road in Claymont, regarding disorderly subjects inside of the store. The ensuing investigation revealed that a female subject had been involved in a dispute with a store employee. During the dispute, an acquaintance of the female, later identified as Michael Fletcher, approached the employee and lunged at him with a knife, cutting his shirt. The employee was not harmed and was able to run away from Fletcher.

Troopers located Fletcher on foot a short distance away, and he was taken into custody without incident. A search of Fletcher led to the discovery of a concealed knife. Fletcher was transported to Troop 1, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Aggravated Menacing (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)

Fletcher was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $4,500 secured bond.
